Assistant Principal's Message
Dear parents and carers,
O Lord, open my eyes that I may see the needs of others Open my ears that I may hear their cries; Open my heart so that they need not be without comfort; Let me not be afraid to defend the weak because of the anger of the strong; Nor afraid to defend the poor because of the anger of the rich. Show me where love and hope and faith are needed. And use me to bring them to those places. And so open my eyes and my ears That I may this coming day be able to do some work of peace for You. |
.
Several weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to attend a two-day Spiritual Retreat following the theme of Justice. It was a valuable opportunity to be with other Catholic leaders as we strengthened our understanding of Justice from a Christian perspective. It is undeniable that seeking and acting with justice is foundational for discipleship and mission in Christian Leadership. We make all attempts to practice justice within our school community through policies, structures and practices that are consistent with the themes of Catholic Social Teaching which is underpinned by respect for the dignity of the human person. We are committed to nurturing a school community that practices justice in all aspects and we encourage you to join us in this mission by reinforcing these values at home and engaging with our school initiatives that promote justice and dignity for all. Your support and involvement are crucial in helping us maintain a community where justice and respect are lived out daily.
Parent conferences and reports
Thank you to our parents for taking the time out of their busy schedules last week to meet with teachers to discuss their children’s academic progress. Reports are now available on Compass via the parent portal.
Thank you also to our staff for the time and effort that has gone into preparing the reports to go home today, and for giving time last week to meet with parents.
School Disco
It is time for the kids to get their groove on and come along to the St Joseph's School Disco on Friday 2 August.
There will be two age groups -
- ELC to Year 2 - 6.15 - 7.15pm (ELC parents are required to stay for the hour)
- Year 3 to 6 - 7.30 - 8.30pm
On the night there will be hotdogs and drinks provided to the children.
As this is an event supported by the School Community Council, there is no cost involved but it is necessary to 'purchase tickets' via Qkr! so we know numbers for the event. The Qkr! event will be live from Thursday 4 July.
.
Can you see yourself behind a hotdog stand or glamming it up with some glitter hairspray? Limited number of disco volunteer spaces available, contact caroline.odgers@hotmail.com to avoid disappointment.
Keeping your Child Safe Online
Attached to this newsletter is a fact sheet about Sextortion. Sextortion is a form of online blackmail where someone tricks students or adults into sending sexual images and then threatens to share the images unless you comply with their demands. There has been an increase of this type of behaviour targeting children in Australia on their devices through various apps, such as messaging and games. It may be worthwhile having a read through the fact sheet and follow up with an age appropriate discussion with your child these the holidays.
I hope all families enjoy the upcoming break from school, taking some time to rest and recharge after a busy term. We look forward to seeing all the student on the first day of Term 3, Tuesday 23 July.
Yours in Christ,
Beth Hawkes
