Assistant Principal's Message
Dear Parents, Carers and the St Joseph's Community,
Loving God
As we enter our Canberra winter, we pray …
For those sleeping under bridges, in abandoned buildings, in doorways or bus stations.
For those who can only find shelter for the night and must wander each day.
For families broken because they could not afford to pay the rent.
For those who have no relatives or friends to take them in.
For those who have no place to keep possessions that remind them who they are.
For those who are cold, afraid and hopeless.
For all these people, we pray that you will provide shelter, security and hope.
Amen
Parent-Teacher Interviews
This semester, parent-teacher interviews will be taking place during Weeks 9 and 10. Interviews normally take place over one week but to help with social distancing measures, this term we have spread them over a two-week period. These interviews are an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s classroom teacher to discuss their progress over Semester 1. Please be aware that reports will not go out until Friday 26 June (Week 9). Bookings are now open and can be accessed HERE
Bookings will close this Sunday at 12pm. We realise this is a short turn around, but it is a necessary deadline so that teachers can be prepared for interviews booked on Monday. Please rest assured that we will send plenty of alerts via SZapp to remind you to book your interview.
To help with COVID restrictions we ask that you please follow our interview protocols:
- Only enter the school just prior to your allocated interview time to limit the number of visitors into the school
- Be on time for your interview
- Use the sanitiser provided at the entrance of each classroom. It is also available at the Front Office.
- We ask that you leave the school immediately after your interview
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping us keep our school community safe!
Beanie and Scarf Fundraising Friday
This Friday we will be holding a fundraiser to help raise money to support members of Catholic Education who are taking part in the annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout. The sleepout raises money for the St Vincent de Paul Society to support the thousands of Australians who experience homelessness every night.
For a gold coin donation, students are invited to wear plain clothes and don a beanie and scarf for the day. All money raised will contribute to Catholic Education’s fundraising efforts. Let’s see if we can raise $1000 for this very worthy cause!!!
Social and Emotional Learning
My focus in classrooms for the coming fortnight is on Emotional Intelligence. I will be teaching explicit skills to help students develop healthy patterns of response to their emotions and those of others. Emotional intelligence includes a range of skills that support children to recognise emotions, manage strong emotions effectively, and respond to complex social situations constructively.
A Couple of Reminders
Please be aware that our school day commences at 8:50 am. If your child arrives at school after this time they need to be signed in at the Front Office by a parent or guardian.
The weather is getting cooler and many children are wearing jumpers, beanies and scarves to school and that means that Lost Property is filling up quickly! At present, there are many items that have not been labelled so cannot be returned to the owner. Please remember to pop a name on all items of clothing, lunch boxes etc so that we can help return them.
I hope you have a wonderful end to the week.
Yours in Christ,
Amy Doszpot
Assistant Principal
